BY SHANÉ, OUR MARKETING ASSISTANT
Last weekend I took a trip to the V&A Market on the Wharf to meet up with some friends. What better place to cater to everyones differing tastes?
We started by doing a brief walk around to suss out the scene I had heard great things about the wraps from Awe Africa, especially the seared beef wrap with avocado. I was hesitant as a wrap is quite simple and sometimes quite boring, but this was clearly the popular choice so I decided to give it a go. The queue was quite lengthy – everyone seemingly ordering the seared beef wrap – but luckily it moved very swiftly and the aroma was enticed me step by step. The guys from the stand were characters which made the few minutes of waiting fly by.
At R40 a wrap I felt it was very fairly priced as they were big and full to the brim with delicious meat, salad, avocado and dressing. 3 of the 4 of us actually ended up getting wraps and did not regret it in the slightest. They were absolutely amazing – so tender and juicy! I would highly recommend trying out the Awe Africa stand when you are next at the V&A Market on the wharf.
Other stands which we enjoyed were Sweet Dreams hand-made fudge (I tried their Turkish Delight fudge which was scrumptious), For the love of Yummyness (Hubby tried their waffle with Nutella and banana – which had us all drooling), Angus Meats (We bought some EXTREMELY affordable Chorizo), the Bubble tea company (we each tried some concoctions and the fruity flavour was the firm favourite) and last but not least The Creamery (where I sampled a mouthful of the scrumptious Salted Caramel ice cream).
Since visiting the market I have visited their website http://www.marketonthewharf.co.za/ and have found out about all the interesting things they have going on there such as their monthly supper clubs and beer tastings. I will definitely be spreading the word as to how great a selection there is at the market as well as how lively atmosphere is, which seems to draw in the young at heart.
