Pink, pretty please

In honor of a few simultaneous; rather auspicious events, on Thursday night I found myself gleefully seated at a long, loud, proud, pretty table at my new most favourite place – ‘Pink’!

The age old question comes to mind…”what’s in a name?” you might ask. Well, ‘Pink’ is a bit of a Pandora’s Box for me in that firstly, it is my favourite colour – without a doubt, and in its umpteen shades and grades of subtlety-to-sublime it never ceases to tug at my heartstrings. Secondly, it happens to be the name of the fabulous little coffee boutique just a stone’s throw away from our home in the quaint village of Kenilworth, Cape Town…and seeing as Thursday was my birthday – it seemed the obvious choice!

“Pink Coffee Boutique” is fast becoming a little obsession in that it ticks all my boxes! It is owned and run by a team with a remarkable sense of taste evident in the eccentric, vintage-retro, bric-a-brac elegance that is it’s decor. It serves excellent coffee in a different cup at each and every visit…in fact – one would be hard pressed to find any piece of crockery that matches – and that is perfect attention to detail in my book! It has Wi-Fi. It boasts a little home-ware boutique jam-packed with all the kinds of ‘nick-nacks’ that make me and my home sigh with happiness. It has a fascinating little room filled with everything a girl, or aspiring domestic goddess could ever want or need to host a party….from the formal kind, to the tea party , to the kiddies sort….you name it and you will find it in “Pinks” little treasure trove! And then….well, there’s the food of course..!

The “Pink” team have very recently ventured into experimenting by night…only one a week, and you HAVE to book! Every Thursday evening boasts a newly created set menu, and if last night’s was anything to go by – it is creative, detailed, made with love and terrifically affordable! Take your own wine and enjoy it from polished glassware – the kind that compliments your wine.

In conclusion – as we would celebrate “Woman’s Day” the next day on the eve of what I would call a brilliant birthday – the colour pink remains prominent in my life….from “Pink” just down the road that provided the perfect setting for a party shared with my loved ones, to my beautiful girls who give me more of an excuse to ‘think pink’ on a daily basis – I would say that “pink” would be a pretty apt word for yesterday, today and tomorrow – in my life anyway…

Only slightly exhausted mother-of-two delicious girls, lover of food (fine and fast), purveyor of all things pretty and Jill of all things ‘creative’…Nancy has a background in the visual and performing arts. Having worked with the eat-art team before, she is thrilled, and slightly bewildered to have been asked to (take time out from juggling and) add some spice to the eat.art blog. Don’t get us wrong….it’s not that it needs it….it just wants more…and she is happy to oblige.
