Okay – so I am blaming the impeccable (almost-) “May Day” we had today for my utter failure at not following through with my chilli-choc sauce recipe extraordinaire! Yip, I had it planned right down to the fresh fat red chilli and Chilli Addict Habenero sauce awaiting my attention together with a melting pot of Albany choc mixed with left-over Lindt bunny. Sigh….I cannot however, be held responsible for the breath-takingly stunning Cape Town day delivered to us today beautifully wrapped in sunshine with a big bright bow.
So, I threw in the apron and kitchen towel and exchanged it for a picnic basket and blanki, two delicious kids and an eager hubby…and headed to one of my favourite spots in Cape Town – the tiered lawns at Groot Constantia. Of course, a pit stop via the tasting cellars to acquire a two pack of 2011 Constantia Rood together with their Dalewood Fromage cheese platter complete with cute little wooden knife, cheese and cracker selection plus rosemary sprig – and really…does one need anything else?
We have this little spot under a lone tree half way up the terraced sprawl of brilliant green lawn, that has our name on it – and our trips to this spot always produce a few well deserved “ah-ha’ moments. Today was no different and besides feeling horribly guilty for not being home, in the kitchen, brewing up a choc-chilli sauce to be revered….we soaked it up good and proper! Super for our souls and for that invisible family glue that good old fashioned outings are made of.
Am I forgiven? I promised a sterling choc-chilli recipe to top the pops….
Instead….perhaps you might find our spot under that tree half way up the Groot Constantia lawns OR even venture further up to the historical pool hidden behind trees in a dappled sunlit glade…hmmm.
Sometimes, a little spontaneity keeps us feeling younger – for longer…so regardless of my love for a good choc-chilli sauce – I am also human, and in the spirit of freedom (Freedom Day, 27th April 2014) – let my soul soar a little in the sunshine today.
