I just love it when I stumble across a pretty new little haunt that takes my fancy…and since I love ANYTHING pretty, it doesn’t take much! I am a sucker for meaningful attention to aesthetics and when I was faced with a rare 30 minutes to kill between one meeting and the next; stuck in the middle of the infamous Obz – The Queen of Tarts called my name from across the block! Or was it that dainty, feinty waft of baking elegance that drifted down Blake Lane in my very direction!?!
Aaaahhhh – with the soft autumn sunshine flooding this more-than-quaint corner “shop” we nestled into our nook and just sat back and sighed in sheer delightfulness at the bric-a-brackery that abounded…all so delightfully chosen and artfully arranged to frame the most incredible looking array of baked goodies and treats. Certainly not for the feint-hearted this selection was so perfectly crafted and even more beautifully displayed that it took on an almost dangerous air of significance. Diet..? Not in this coffee shop my dear – no such word exists here and I am in a small slice of heaven.
Although in saying this, not only is the Queen of Tarts known for her yummies, but I managed to sneak a peek into their kitchen whilst the chefette was tossing together some pretty awesome looking salads.
I am getting to know the closet baker within me…who has only started revealing herself since I had the girls. I find myself over-committing to cake sales and birthdays with a frenzy that is growing rapidly out of control, especially when in the moment of hand-moulding a fondant family of dual-coloured hedgehogs complete with prickles for Belles class cake raffle (it was our turn last week!)…I am thinking “You have officially been bitten by the baker bug!”.
On top of this, and with such impeccable timing Eat.Art launches their Bake Art range – which could very possibly be even prettier than the Queen of Tarts’ Coffee Shoppe – and THAT is saying something – this range is a conversation piece! Available in ranges for any occasion: boys, girls, glam (love!), chocolate and family, I wouldn’t be surprised if Eat.Art becomes responsible for more inner baker unleashing’s in the very near future.
So put this altogether and I am now a ball of baking anticipation ready to be unleashed on the world of eggs and flour with fodant and frosting. I used to walk into a nursery and blow my budget and then some, then it was the stationary shop….now it’s the cake shop. I am finished!
Do yourself a favour and brave the Obz parking squash for a tea time at the Queens…and then dash home inspired to bake your heart out using Eat.Arts Bake Art goodies. The Queen of Tarts may have some competition on her hands – Eat,Art makes it look so easy.
Mother-of-two delicious girls, lover of food (fine and fast), purveyor of all things pretty and Jill of all things ‘creative’…Nancy has a background in the visual arts, design and marketing and is the owner and Creative Director of Magpie. Having worked with the Eat.Art team before, she is thrilled to take time out from juggling and add some spice to the Eat.Art blog. Don’t get us wrong….it’s not that it needs it….it just wants more…and she is happy to oblige.
