Certainly a much-loved venue – The Blue Water Café at Imhoff Farm along Kommetjie Road – is one of our absolute favourites for an early supper on the lawns or a long and lazy luncheon with friends and family! Having recently spent the afternoon in its arms with good company and great food….made me realise that those of us who are lucky enough to live in Cape Town should make it a rule to cross over a mountain at LEAST once every weekend! Whether it’s Table Mountain via Kloofnek to Camps Bay/ or Suikerbossie to Hout Bay/ Chapmans Peak or Ou Kaapse to Noordhoek– there is just no excuse not to! And what awaits us on either end is always a saltier breath of air, a glimpse of the sea, a silhouette of a mountain and a damn good restaurant to go to!
Imhoff Farm is a brilliant weekend outing option for all the boxes it ticks….with its iconic Blue Water Café being the cherry on top. Not only is the setting just perfection, it caters for the smaller of us in the form of: snakes, camels, a Higgeldy Piggeldy Farmyard, a brilliant jungle gym and tree house play area; and the best face painter in Cape Town. And…for the bigger of us – a boutique wine shoppe that hosts regular tastings (open on Sundays too!), a ‘to-die-for’ deli, a nursery, an art gallery as well as an array of other interesting nick-nacky shops.
And despite its good looks, Blue Water Café offers a fantastic menu for young and old. From pizzas to ribs, delish breakfasts and burgers, to fresh and fanciful salads, our experience of their culinary offering is always superb, with service to match!
One of my favourite things about the Café is its herb and veggie garden – where they can grow their own, they do. Right up the alley of us eat.art foodies! So you will find your salad stacked with home grown rocket and drizzled in homemade pesto…the only thing missing from their menu is eat.art gourmet spices! But, with Imhoff Farm being an artisanal offering as a whole – I am sure we can find a place to stock some gourmet spice….hmmmm…team, are you taking notes?
So if you’re at a loss during the school holidays – head out for the day – this is the perfect place to meet up with other mommies and kids for some good old fashioned farmyard fun – oh, and did I mention their cakes..?! Oh, if not for the view…do it for the cake!
