Food Craft – Review

By Candice from A Gorgeous Life

As we were unable to attend the first Food Craft event, we were thrilled when we were given another opportunity to experience the New York diner-style dinner at the Tap Room.

An evening of firsts, starting with our first visit to the Devil’s Peak Brewery – the home to great craft beer and fantastic food, we enjoyed pork belly, chicken skewers and arroncini under the mountain’s shadow – along with some pretty great local craft beer.

I’ve skipped to the main course – when the evening actually began with fantastic bubbly from Stellenbosch Wine Estate – their Kumkani Infiti was on offer, ensuring the evening was off to a great start. (PS this delightful Pinot Noir / Chardonnay blend is currently on sale at the cellar door for R50 a bottle – hurry). We were given generous portions of Barrett’s Ridge Beer Bread, to enjoy with Rio Largo olive oil and balsamic vinegar – again, all firsts for us. Soft, delicious bread dipped in grassy olive oil and sweet balsamic – I could have happily had this for dinner. While the evening itself is a fantastic way to spend a Monday, it is also a wonderful opportunity to meet (and fall in love with) new brands – with this amazing olive oil and bubbly high on our list.

We enjoyed dinner to the sounds of live music from Mark McCree, our glasses never empty of wine or beer – before ending the dinner on a sweet note, thanks to truffles from the ladies behind Saszali chocolates. With five truffles to try, salted caramel and golden thyme stole the show – perfect stocking fillers for sweet-toothed friends and family.

A fairly intimate event, it was truly one of the best I’ve been to recently – and, being hosted on a Monday, it was a welcome celebration for the end of the day. Delicious food, great brands and the best wine and beer – Mondays have never been better. Here’s looking at the next one!
