A year-end function can be a slightly stayed event. And so, when the eat.art team headed to Tigers Milk for theirs’, expectations varied. Added to this, the boss decided to keep it simple and NOT invite partners – which, despite a few ruffled tail feathers at first – it worked a charm once guards were dropped and welcome drinks consumed. The end result was nothing close to stayed…in fact, it was a treat!

Having heard loads about this venue, mainly with respects to its hip, distinctively deconstructed décor…I had some expectations, I always do.
I have to say that my first impressions were of the general heave and energy of the place, I was surprised! Not only was it packed to capacity at only 7pm on a mid-week evening, but it seemingly attracts a crowd of liqorice allsorts, partly perhaps because of its location on Muizenberg beach front (at Surfers Corner) – which, seems to be developing into a strip of happening locales for both the young and old.
Their slogan is interestingly, “Dude Food Made Real Good”…and whilst this smacks of bar food in baskets, their menu lives up to its promise. It’s simple yet big at heart and features the likes of burgers (with names such as “Triple Bypass”), pizzas, and essentials from the grill as well as a fair sized section dedicated to steaks! Nothing is served in baskets – in fact, bulky wooden boards seemed favourable.
Often, my order of a steak cooked blue ensues a reaction of glazed confusion…and its result, more than often, confirms this. Tigers Milk served me a fillet of blue perfection…together with a divine mushroom and truffle oil sauce and slim, crispy fries (sorry, Noakes – couldn’t refuse these). That alone confirms that their head chef has his (or her) hat on.

This is a trendy restaurant and bar venue that is open daily until 2am! Glass fronted with an unobstructed view of False Bay – a cocktail menu to note and capable, friendly staff….Tigers Milk is undoubtedly cool, and will more than likely meet your needs, and possibly exceed them.

Pre-booking is essential; and in terms of dress code, sandy bare feet or stilettos are equally ideal.
